Abelina Alvo Valdez was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in Tucson, Arizona. She was 106 years old.

Abelina was born in Vanadium, New Mexico on June 14, 1913 to Eufemio Alvo and Juanita Montoya Alvo. Abelina was the sister to three brothers, Agustin, Jose and Adolfo, and two sisters, Margarita and Natalia.  Abelina worked at the Post Office in Vanadium, then went to work for the superintended for ASARCO copper Mine in Vanadium.

On January 18, 1947, Abelina married Alejo R. Valdez. Soon after marriage they moved to Bayard, New Mexico where they started their family and had three children, Amelia (Jose✝) Jimenez, Elvira (Refugio) Huerta, and Anselmo (Gloria) Valdez.  Abelina and Alejo then moved to Silver Bell, Arizona in 1957, where Alejo continued to work for ASARCO Copper Mine.  In 1963, the family moved to Marana, Arizona where they purchased land to build their home of 10 years.

Alejo retired from ASARCO Copper Mine in 1973 and they decided to journey back to their roots of their home state and moved to Deming, New Mexico. They purchased land and built a home and fulfilled their retirement dream of a big garden and raising farm animals. Abelina was fond of her beloved peacock. She loved her bird Georgie and her little dog Chulady. Alejo and Abelina opened their hearts and home to a young child and adopted him at age 5, Terry Valdez.

In 1997 Alejo became ill and they journeyed back to Arizona, moving to Dudleyville with Anselmo, Gloria and their family. After Alejo's passing in 1997, Abelina continued living with Anselmo and Gloria for 20 years. The last three years of Abelina's live she lived in Tucson, Arizona.

Abelina's passion was cooking. She was especially known for her fruit cake at Christmas and cranberries at Thanksgiving. Her hobbies included crocheting of blankets, word puzzles, and nurturing her house plants. She enjoyed attending Sunday Mass.

Abelina had 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Abelina was fortunate to know and love all her great-grandchildren ranging in ages of 28 to 3.

Abelina brought great joy to all those around her. Her wonderful spirit and joy will be greatly missed.
