Florence Gonzales, 95, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on August 14, 2022, in Tucson.

She was born on July 8, 1927, in Mora, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Roman and Tomacita Gallegos.

Florence was a long-time resident of the Globe-Miami area before moving to Tucson, Arizona 11 years ago to live with her daughter Susie.

Florence moved to the Globe-Miami area in the late 1940's with Amador Sr to make a life for themselves, they would raise their family in the Miami area. Florence spent her life cooking for her family and the neighborhood. If you went to visit Florence, she was always ready to feed you. She was always cooking a home cooked meal and you better be ready to sit down and eat whether you were hungry or not.

Florence worked as a homemaker for most of her life. In addition, she worked for a brief time in the kitchen at El Rey in Globe. She took pride in cleaning and having a clean house. She loved doing laundry for her family. She loved sewing, especially sewing buttons on shirts. She would iron clothes that were military style, ready for anyone to wear to look their best. However, her favorite thing to do was cook for her family. She could cook for an army. She loved eating her hot green or red chili. Her beans, Spanish rice and tortillas were everyone's favorite. For desert let us not forget her famous rice pudding. She loved feeding her stray cats from the neighborhood.

The most important thing Mom/Nana leaves us with is her faithfulness to our Lord. She has never doubted or strayed from her faith. When she dealt with life's challenges, she always just prayed that much harder. She prayed vocally until she could no longer speak. However, her body remained reverent until her last breathe.  Her words were "Dios es muy grande".

She leaves behind 1 step-sister Lena Maria Gallegos and 1 step-brother Paul Rey Gallegos both of Penasco New Mexico. She had a total of 6 children, with 3 surviving children, Tonie & (John) Brownstead, Richard & (Socorro) Gonzales, her daughter and full-time caretaker Susie & (Armando Jr) Delgado all of Tucson, including 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother Roman and Tomacita Gallegos; her step mom Maria Gallegos; her siblings Gene & Tobias Gallegos and Margaret Cordero; her husband of 45 years Amador A. Gonzales Sr, her children Arthur, Frances, and Amador Gonzales Jr., and her one and only godson, Gilbert Barela.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A viewing will be held on August 20, 2022, at OLBS in Miami starting with the viewing at 9:00 am. The Rosary at 9:30 am. With the Mass following at 10:00 am. The interment will be held in the Central Heights cemetery.
