Gary Lynn Andress, age 74, entered into eternal rest on August 26, 2021. Gary was
born on September 17, 1946 to J.T. and Ruby Naomi Andress in Miami, Arizona and
was the youngest of 3 children. After graduating from Grants High School in 1964, Gary
immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force to avoid the uncertainties of the
draft. Staff Sgt. E6 UASF Gary Andress served with the 850th Air Commando Squadron
in La Trang, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand landing in Vietnam the day before the TET
offensive launched. He served as a Crew Chief on an A-26 attack plane, his military
brothers and flight crew affectionately referred to him as "Andy." Gary, like many
veterans of that era, found the memories of his time in the military difficult to share;
however, he remained steadfastly proud of serving his country.
Gary returned to the Globe-Miami area in late 1969 and began working for Inspiration
Copper in 1970 where he worked as a heavy duty mechanic and Safety Coordinator
until his retirement in 2007. Gary remained committed to his goal of furthering his
education and was determined to be an example of the importance of a college
education. Gary graduated from the University Of Phoenix with a Bachelor's Degree in
Business Management, obtaining his degree the same year his daughter graduated
from high school.
Gary Andress married the love of his life (LaVerna Hatch) on February 13, 1971 and in
1976 welcomed their only daughter, Desiree Andress-Ihrig. Gary was an active
member of the community for more than 50 years, involved in various organizations and
clubs, including the Vigilantes, Globe Gun Club, VFW, Charter Member of the Elks
Club, American Legion, former Miami High School board member, Globe-Miami
Community Concert Association, and Gila County Historical Society. Gary valued
people and his friendships, and was known for his ability to make friends easily and
maintained many treasured lifelong friendships.
Gary took great joy in spending time with his grandson and best buddy, Braedyn
Andress-Ihrig, dancing the night away anytime the opportunity presented itself, camping
with family, ATV riding with friends, hunting, playing golf, and listening to his favorite
music on his patio. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna Andress, parents
J.T. and Ruby Naomi Andress, and sister, Billie Somerville. Gary is survived by his
daughter Desiree Andress-Ihrig, son-in-law Billy Ihrig, grandson Braedyn Andress-Ihrig,
brother Ron(Ruth) Andress and special friend/adventure companion Robin Wurst.
