Guillermo "Memo" Gomez Jr ., 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Lund Home in Gilbert, Arizona.

Guillermo was born on December 15, 1953, in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, to Guillermo and Librada Gomez. He was raised in Superior, Arizona, where he spent most of his life. He attended Superior High School, where he was an avid athlete, earning the John Mitchell Award for excellence in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also a member of the baseball team that won the state championship in 1972.

Guillermo proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He later worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver, including time with Swift and other trucking companies. He had a deep love for boxing - both as an amateur boxer in his younger years and as a lifelong fan who attended many memorable fights.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious humor, and boisterous laugh, but most of all for his generosity. Guillermo was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his daughters, Angel (Paul) Navarrette, Maria (Johnny) Cruz, and Anissa Gomez; his grandchildren, Destiny, Nathan, and Natalie Navarrette, and Isaac Cruz; and his great-granddaughter, Maya Laguna. He is also survived by his brothers, Roberto (Patricia) Gomez and Mario (Valerie) Gomez; and his sisters, Ida Salomon, Lucy (Manny) Sandoval, Lupita (Abel) Talamantes, Patricia Castaneda, and Laura Gomez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guillermo and Librada Gomez; his stepmother, Encarnacion Gomez; his brothers, Manny Duarte and Ernesto Gomez; and his sister, Malena Miranda.
