Joaquin "kino" F. Diaz-Gonzalez peacefully passed away at his home in Superior, Arizona on December 29, 2023. Joaquin was born in Ray, Arizona on August 8, 1927 and grew to adulthood in Sonora, Arizona. He served in the United States Navy during World War II through 1948. Upon completing his services, he returned home where he met and married his wife Mary Villanueva of Superior, Arizona. The two married on November 11, 1950 and lived in Sonora, Arizona where Joaquin gained employment with Kennecott Copper. Starting as a laborer, he excelled to carpenter and eventually supervisor. The first Hispanic to hold that position. Following his retirement from Kennecott Copper, which later became ASARCO, Joaquin spent the remainder of his life in Superior, Arizona, where he donated his time helping out the St. Francis church during the fiestas in the hamburger booth and becoming involved with the church youth group (CYM). Joaquin enjoyed camping outdoors and hunting with his grandkids. However, his favorite pastime was dancing the jitterbug with his beloved wife, Mary. Joaquin is survived by his two sons Michael (Josie) Diaz-Gonzalez and Johnny (Liz) Diaz-Gonzalez. In addition to six grandkids, ten great-grandkids and two great great grandkids. Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Perish on January 13, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Followed by a rosary at 9:30 A.M. and Mass of Cristian burial at 10:00 A.M. A luncheon will be held at Los Hermanos Ballroom
