John Augustine Lucero of Apache Junction, Arizona was called home to heaven on June 9, 2022, at the age of 88.

John was born May 30, 1934 in Isleta, New Mexico and later married the love of his life Bonnie Ruth Giovengo on January 16, 1964.

John started out as a cowboy working for BC Ringer, Rafter 6 Ranch, Cecil England and John Shalver. His love for horses continued with raising, training, and riding them throughout his life. John was also a proud member of the Pinal County Sherriff's Posse for a few years. Following his time as a cowboy John worked 13 years for the Copper Basin Railway, as an engineer, till his retirement at age 65. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, watching westerns, and spending time with his family. His happy-go-lucky personality was something everyone noticed about him. He was constantly turning strangers into friends wherever he went. You know good and well he is still wearing that old cowboy hat and button-up shirt in the sky. Hope that old hat isn't getting in the way of his halo.

John is preceeded in death by his parents Batista Lucero and Anita Lucero Padilla. His children Joyce Spicer, Johnnie Allen Lucero, Johnathan Lucero, and Robert Lucero. As well as his sister, Percy Tewahaftewa.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Lucero. His two sisters, Rosie and Antonita. His children Barbara (Brian) Gleave and Michael Lucero. His grandchildren: Taylor (Michael), Cody (Christina), Tony, Kristi, J.D., and Janessa; as well as, 12 great-grandchildren.
