Joe Sellick Marin, Jr., 79, entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2026. He was born in Ray, Arizona, to Joe and Grace Marin.

He graduated from Hayden High School in 1965. He began his career at Boyle Bros. Drilling and the Arizona Highway Department. He later began working in the copper mines as a heavy-duty mechanic until his retirement.

He especially enjoyed his retirement years as a school board member for the Hayden High School Unified School District and as a town council member and park official for the Town of Winkelman, where he gained his name as the “Commissioner.”

He will be remembered for his commitment to his alma mater, the Hayden Lobos; his love for the sandlot; roping and riding horses; enjoying a cold beer; keeping his neighborhood safe; and telling stories and sharing the history of the town. He was also known for keeping a watchful eye on his community—and is said to be the reason there are speed bumps around town, just in case anyone forgot to slow down.

Joe also loved spending time with his fellow roping partners, who gave him the nickname “Latch On,” a name that suited him well and stayed with him through the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Grace Marin; his son, JoePaul Marin; and his granddaughter, Ja’Vae Rios.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Gracie (Manny) Laguna, Gina (Cory) Napier, Veronica Marin, Adrianna (Jason) Veliz, and Jesusita Guerrero; and his son, Joseph (Tiffany) Hammer; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joanne (Jeff) Orem and Yvonne Marin; his brother, Richard Marin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe “Baby Joe” will be deeply loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. His memory, stories, and love for his family and community will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him
