Lavern Other Sumpter passed away on December 25, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 11, 1945, in Mesa, Arizona. Lavern was 80 years old.

Lavern was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lavern Sumpter and Pearl Hooten. Also, stepmother Hazel Sumpter.

Lavern met the love of his life, Margaret Ragland, in the fall of 1958, in Welcome Home Arkansas. Lavern and Margaret (the pick of the litter as Lavern liked to say) were married in May of 1963.  Shortly after Lavern moved his new bride to Arizona. It was July and Margaret (never experiencing Arizona heat before) thought that Lavern and moved her to hell. Lavern and Margaret set roots in Superior and later moved to Globe. In Globe Lavern ran a successful construction business that the couple started in 1970 up until his death. Lavern built many homes in the community and was always there to help people with their A/C or any other task. Anyone who knew Lavern knew that there was not a job he couldn't or wouldn't do. He also had several other business ventures. Many will remember the Globe/Miami Speedway in Wheatfields or the Fantasy in Orbit arcade at the bowling alley.

Lavern had an adventurous soul. He was an avid outdoorsman. In his years he did many exciting and daring things. He was a licensed aircraft pilot, he went gold mining in Alaska, scuba diving in Mexico, sailing archery, trapping, and traveling the world with his wife Margaret.  At home Lavern and Margaret loved to spend time on Roosevelt Lake, camping and boating with friends.

Lavern was also a proud member of the Globe/Miami Elks, Rotary and Lions.

Lavern leaves behind: his wife of 62 years Margaret. Daughters Dana Miller (Percy) and Melinda Sumpter. Grandchildren, Scott Miller (Amber), Amber Baxter (Nick) and Ceara Rogers (Drew). Great grandchildren, Megan, Aria, Remi, Ava, Ivan Ellie, Donald and Ambrea. Also, stepbrother Jimmy Hooten.

A celebration of life will be held on January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Globe/Miami Elks Lodge, 1910 E. Maple St. Globe, Arizona.
