Tony Escandon Navarro, 79, of Tempe, Arizona passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 31, 2024, from stroke complications. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Fairview Cemetery in the Town of Superior. Tony was born on July 13, 1944, in Douglas, Arizona to parents Tony and Hortencia Navarro. When Tony was about two-years old, his family moved to Superior, Arizona. At Superior High School, Tony was quarterback for the football team, was crowned homecoming king, and also played basketball and baseball. He participated in Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Eagle Scout Award. Upon graduation from high school he was offered an athletic scholarship to Eastern Arizona College. Around 1967 Tony moved to Tempe, Arizona so that his wife, Stephanie, could attend Arizona State University. He worked at Pizza Inn on Rural and Apache, better known as The Vine, and Marathon Steel (which is now Tempe Sports Complex). He later worked at Reynold's Aluminum, before he accepted a job at Arizona Public Service (APS) as a Quality Control Specialist at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, where he eventually retired after over thirty years there. In the latter part of his career at APS, Tony was sent to Italy and Switzerland to oversee construction of equipment that would be used in Arizona. During retirement, Tony enjoyed reading and traveling. His greatest treasure was attending the many sporting events his grandchildren participated in. Tony was preceded in death by Tony and Hortencia Navarro (parents), and is survived by his brothers and sister Fred and Frank Navarro and Sally Lyons, former wife, Stephanie Navarro, his sons Jon, Joel and Nick Navarro, and his grandchildren Jillian, Parker and Henley Navarro.
